PURPOSE / SCOPE:
ICOM provides paid leave time and financial resources for full-time employees in faculty positions and certain staff positions. Such resources are intended to provide professional development opportunities that would increase an employee’s knowledge and skills in their respective profession while enhancing their contribution to the organization.
POLICY AND PROCEDURE:
The Continuing Education Allowance (CE) is a discretionary resource and is available to full-time faculty and certain full-time staff positions. The list of positions eligible for the Continuing Education Allowance is available in the Office of Human Resources.
Approvals
Continuing Education activities must be job relevant and approved by an employee’s supervisor. An employee within three months of termination is not generally approved for CE time nor dollars.
Allowances
Continuing Education Allowance (time and financial support) is an annual allowance based upon ICOM’s fiscal year (July 1 through June 30). The resources available are based upon an employee’s full-time role, as follows:
Associate and Assistant Deans | $6,000 / 5 days |
Clinical Faculty | $4,000 / 5 days |
Biomedical Faculty | $3,000 / 5 days |
Staff Positions |
$500 - $3000 / 5 days (see HR for details) |
Eligible Expenses
Expenses that support career development in line with ICOM’s mission and strategic objectives are generally eligible for reimbursement. Expenses eligible for reimbursement include:
- Conferences and related expenses
- Seminars or webinars
- Educational courses or degree programs
- Membership fees for professional organizations that include a learning component
- Subscriptions to scholarly journals
- Books and computer-based learning resources
- Professional certification and licensure expenses
Unused Resources
Unused CE allowances (hours and dollars) do not carry over from one fiscal year to the next. CE allowances are not transferable to other employees.
